AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Aggravated assault is another very serious felony charge in the State of Illinois. An assault is aggravated when an assault is committed in any of the following circumstances:

  • A deadly weapon or device, or something manufactured to look like one is used in the crime’s commission,
  • The assailant is hooded or their identity is concealed during the crime’s commission,
  • The victim is a teacher, employee of a school or park district, a peace officer, a paramedic, a Public Aid employee or one of many other municipal employees,
  • The victim is a senior citizen or handicapped person, or
  • A firearm is discharged during the crime’s commission.
